Actor. He began his career on stage in Broadway. He debuted on cinema with the film Three Men on a Horse (1936). In 1961, he was nominated for a Tony Award as Best Actor (Dramatic) for The Devil's Advocate. Also he appeared in After the Tin Man (1936), The Mad Miss Manton (1938), Golden Boy (1939), The Killers (1946), Crossfire (1947), The Babe Ruth Story (1948), Designing Woman (1957), Sweet Smell of Success (1957), Slaughter on Tenth Avenue (1957), A Farewell to Arms (1957) and ... And Justice for All (1979), his last film. He also appeared on stage in Guys and Dolls.
