Pompilia Falvo Cianflone

Photo added by Josie Kinnear

Pompilia Falvo Cianflone

Pompilia was my grandmother. She was born in Italy in 1906. She was one of 5 girls. She was married to Joseph Cianflone in 1931. They had 7 children together. Only 3 survived birth. Her husband Joseph died in 1946 leaving her to raise her 3 children, Silvestro, Mario (my father) and Gina. She came to America in 1961. She died in 1965 of stomach cancer. My Great Aunt used to tell us that my Grandmother was operated on to remove the cancer, the doctors saw how bad she was, closed her up and neither the doctors nor family members told her the truth as to how far gone she already was. She died shortly after. I never knew my grandmother but her sister Elizabeth Falvo Albanese stepped in and was just a like a grandmother to me.
(The glasses she's wearing in this photo I keep in my curio cabinet.)

***Note: A very special thank you to Rita Faye (Epperson) Miracle for sponsoring my grandmother's memorial. If you have a chance to get to know Rita, do it - she's a remarkable woman!
