Alton McLaughlin, 72, of Gatesville, died Sept. 16 at his residence.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Ater Cemetery.
Mr. McLaughlin was born July 26, 1929, in Pulltight to the late James Walter and Maudie Mayola Russell McLaughlin. He attended school in Ater and Jonesboro before graduating in 1947 from Gatesville High School. On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Bobbie Gilliland. After their marriage, they resided in Gatesville. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Hood and in Germany from 1951-53. He worked for Precinct 4 in Coryell County, W.S. Conner Construction and Woodard Construction Company for 36 years until retiring in 1994. He was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Lois McLaughlin; and a brother, Harold Dwayne McLaughlin.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie McLaughlin of Gatesville; daughter, Lynn Grubb of Gatesville; sisters, Margie Beechly of Jonesboro, Geneva Baas of San Antonio and Dorothy Mason of Lubbock; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Ultsch, Joseph Wibbenmeyer, Billy Tucker, Ed Nichols, David Whittenburg and Curtis Beechly.
