CECIL MULLINAX

Cecil Mullinax, 53, Steele, died at 11:20 p.m., yesterday in a local hospital following a long illness.
A native and resident of St. Clair County most of his life, Mr. Mullinax had been a route salesman with Domestic Laundry for the past 10 years. Also, he was a former school teacher in St. Clair for seven years. Mr. Mullinax was a member of Steele Baptist Church and Steele Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Sitz Mullinax; daughter, Anita Mullinax, Steele; a sister, Mrs. Wilma Nabors, Birmingham, and three brothers, George Henry Mullinax, Steele, Roscoe Mullinax, Birmingham, and Carl Mullinax, Columbia, S. C.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., tomorrow in Steele Baptist Church, with the Revs. Irving C. Welborn and Don Cox officiating.
Burial will be in Steele Cemetery, Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge.
Active pallbearers will be Euel Woods, Andy Honeysuckle, Aksel Bodholdt, Bert Rock, Pete Wicks, Bob Moore, Norman Turner, and Buddy Russell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. J.O. Finney, Dr. William J. Talley, Dr. William Simpson, Dr. Morris, nurses of Holy Name of Jesus Hospital and all other personal friends.
The body will remain at the residence until the hour of service.

Uncle Cecil's given name is Joe, but us kids always called him Uncle Cecil. He was severely crippled with arthritis, I only remember seeing him walk once or twice with help. Before he was totally bedridden, he could maneuver from one room to another by walking a ladder back chair across the hardwood floors. I wonder if the scuff marks could still be visible today. He loved all of us as kids, he would always smile when one of us entered his room, and quiz us about school, we didn't realize at the time he was a teacher. My favorite time with him was in the morning, me, Aunt Lucille and Uncle Cecil, sipping coffee out of a saucer. I'm sure he got a kick out of this I was only 7 or 8 at that time.
One of the songs at his funeral was Rock of Ages. His favorite song was On the Jericho Road, he was always pleased to hear his daughter Anita play it on her piano and sing.
