Dwayne Babin - Mistaking laundry tablets used for cleaning clothes for candy, a two year old died in a New Orleans Hospital while his brother and a cousin are recovering. 22-month-old Dwayne Babin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilton Babin of St. Amant was playing around the house December 6, with his three year old brother, Jean and his three year old cousin Leroy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ancil Babin of St. Amant, while his aunt, Mrs. William Babin, was doing laundry. The children found the tablets in the wash room at the rear of the house and thinking they were candy, started to eat them. Mrs. Babin noticed the children with the tablets at 2 p.m. and rushed them to Gonzales where they were given first aid treatment and then sent to New Orleans. Little Dwayne succumbed at 8 a.m. last Friday. The other children have returned home and are recuperating. Funeral services were held last Saturday at 4 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church at St. Amant with Father M. A. Wyshoff officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
