Marvin Nielsen, 77, of Custer, South Dakota, formerly of Miller, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at his home in Custer.

Marvin Dwayne Nielsen was born September 7, 1936 to George L. and Margaret E. (Lutter) Nielsen in Redfield, South Dakota. He grew up on his parent's farm and attended country school through the 8th grade.

Marvin married Delores (Ames), daughter of Wesley and Myrtle (Seeley) Ames, on October 31, 1964. They farmed in the Miller area before moving to Custer for a short time in 1972. They ran a Grade A Dairy farm in St. Lawrence until 1983. Marvin and Deloris moved to the Black Hills to finish their lives in Custer.

Marv managed the Nelson Oil and Gas propane plant. Together Marvin and Delores started renting residential properties. He enjoyed collecting antique cars, fishing, nights in Deadwood and keeping close connection with his many friends and family.

He is survived by two sons, Pat of Miller, Mark (Kim) of Custer; daughter, Angela of Rapid City; 13 grandchildren; 4 great granddaughters; sisters Gleva Schlotter, Doris Landeen and Alice (Paul) Engelmann.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret; stepfather, Jake; sisters, Donna, Marilyn, and Elaine; his oldest son Michael; brothers in law Don Schlotter, and John Landeen.
