Doris Starr

WADSWORTH -- Doris Louise Dornbusch Starr left this life during the morning of Sunday, April 1, 2012, in the presence of family at Akron City Hospital, after a short illness following a stroke. Doris was born Oct. 26, 1927, on her family's farm in Antioch, Monroe County, to her parents, Wesley and Irma Dornbusch. She met and married Vernon Starr in Antioch in 1947. Afterwards they moved to Akron and later to Springfield Township in Summit County, where they raised their children, Richard, Gary and Karen. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a respected friend to many. Her passion for baseball was unmatched and in her, the Cleveland Indians have lost perhaps their greatest fan. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Paul Dornbusch; her husband, Vernon Starr; and a grandson, Keegan Starr, with whom she will share her final resting place in Antioch and who she looked forward to meeting again, where her path in this life ends and the other begins. Doris was a testament to the best of motherhood and country values, and she will be sorely missed by her brother, Willard Dornbusch of Pennsylvania; sons, Richard (Cindy) Starr of Akron and Gary (Stephanie) Starr of Mount Pleasant S.C.; a daughter, Karen (Don) Harbert of Norton; and grandchildren, Stacey Starr of Seattle, Washington, Shaun (Alaina) Starr of Akron, Adam Harbert of Wadsworth, Kasey Starr of Doylestown and Jackie Harbert of Norton. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Road, Fairlawn 44333, where a time for remembrances will begin at 7 p.m. Graveside services will be Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at Antioch Cemetery, Antioch, Monroe County. Following the short service a reception will be held at the Eckman cabin on state Route 800 between Antioch and Woodsfield. In lieu of flowers donations may be made for the preservation and maintenance of Antioch Cemetery in care of the Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home.
