MARSHALLVILLE -- Earl R. Howell, 80, of the Marshallville area, died on Friday, April 24, 2009, at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in Orrville. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home, 415 N. Elm St. Orrville. Evangelist Stephen Healea will be officiating. Burial will be at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 27, 6-8 p.m. at Gresser Funeral Home. He was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Woodsfield, the son of Harrison (Doc) Howell and Mary Laura Hunnell. He married Luella Swallie on Sept. 10, 1952 and she died May 10, 1998. Earl worked for Babcock-Wilcox in Barberton, retiring in 1994, after 26 years of faithful service. He also was a U.S Army veteran serving in the Korean War. Surviving Earl are a son, Eddie Ray, and his wife Sara Eicher; a daughter, Pamela Sue Howell (both of the home); four grandchildren, Stacie Howell, Tracy Lawrence, Eddie Ray Howell Jr. and Erica Eicher; and five great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his wife Luella; his parents; a brother, Roy of Cambridge; and two sisters, Doris Hoskinson of Vermilion, and Freda Mellott of Woodsfield. He was the last surviving member of his family.
