On Tuesday, Ellen peacefully joined her Savior, Jesus Christ, her parents, Wes and Bertie, and her loving and devoted husband, Doug. Ellen departed the Broadview Assisted Living where she received compassionate and professional care.
Ellen was born in Marks Mississippi. She graduated from Marks High School as valedictorian then was accepted to a business school in Memphis Tennessee. There she met her soul mate and Ellen and Doug were married in 1956. She was a devoted career Navy wife and became mother to two sons Flint (Dixie) and Scott (Kalynn). Doug was stationed at NAS Pensacola and the Hassell family began to put roots down. Ellen became employed by Kmart. She retired there as the senior office manager.
Ellen's grandchildren are Meagan (Chuck Walters), Amanda, Zachary, Michelle, John, and Sarah. Ellen was known as "GiGi" to her great-grandsons David, Bryant, Greg, and Charlie.
Services will be held Saturday, June 14th at Faith Chapel South. Visitation will begin at 3:00 pm and the funeral will be at 4:00 pm. Burial services will commence at Barrancas National Cemetery Monday at 11:00 am.
