Su, like all her family, was born in Brooklyn , New York . In 1958, when she was 12, her family moved to Brookline , Massachusetts . After high school, she briefly lived in Provincetown , but moved back to the Boston area to work. It was while working at the Widener Library at Harvard that she made one of her lifelong friends, Camille Motta . But P'town called to her and she returned over 40 years ago.Su was such a fixture that she rarely left town. Su never drove and never wanted to. Therefore, she walked everywhere and so she met and chatted with everyone. She seemed to know everyone in town, and they were all familiar with her. She was walking along the beach one day and stopped to talk with a vacationing family that led to her close friendship with Richard Lombardi .Su loved cats and always had a cat or 2 or 3, sometimes 4. Surprisingly, she also loved dogs and seemed to know most all the P'town dogs, and thus, their owners. She dog-sat for Carlotta , Park Davis' standard poodle for many years. Carlotta loved Su's cats and they would cuddle with the gentle dog. Even during her last days at Seashore Point, her friends Mark and Richard visited her with their dogs. She might have enjoyed the dogs' visit more than her friends'.A gifted master chef, Su cooked for friends and an occasional restaurant. If you liked hot spicy food, you wanted her to cook for you. Cooking for friends brought her great joy. Even the neighbor dogs would be the happy recipients of the leftover bones from her cooking. When she left P'town for family events in New Jersey , Memphis , and California , she would travel with fresh lobster and cook it when she arrived.Su was one of the P'town eccentrics. She loved Saturday yard sales, often spending more in postage than she paid for a treasure for her sister. She frequented the Methodist Thrift Store, sometimes for the visit more than the search. She was very artistic, like her Aunt Dorothy . Her walls and storage were full of sketches and paintings from P'town artists. Her personality was striking. Opinionated, inflexible, stubborn, directive are all words used to describe her, and that's by her friends. Yet, many of her friendships date back decades, which might be a tribute to her friends' patience and understanding of her emotional limitations.Su's health had been precarious for the last year. She withdrew from the outside world, stopped calling and sending cards to all the cousins for their significant dates. She died at Seashore Point in Hospice care on Tuesday night, 3 June 2014 at age 67. She is survived by her mother, Gilda Hoffman , of Visalia CA . Also by her sister Laurie and brother-in-law Robert Hart , of Visalia . She has 2 nephews: Andrew Hart, his wife Jessica , great-nephew Matt and great-niece Annie , of Visalia ; and David Hart and his wife Maya, of Ra'anana Israel.Friends are gathering for a Graveside service on Friday the 13th at 10:00am in the Provincetown Cemetery.
