George Y. Downing, 82, of 3419 24th St., Rock Island, died at 3:20 this morning at Moline Lutheran Hospital, Moline. Mr. Downing was vice president of Downing's Dairy, Inc., Rock Island, and had been with the dairy since it was founded in 1908.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Knox-Larson Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth McArthur of First United Presbyterian Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Heart Association.
Mr. Downing was born Feb. 11, 1892, in Rock Island, the son of John E., and Laura Kreis Downing. He had lived in Rock Island his entire life.
He married Helen M. Johnson Jan. 29, 1921, in Rock Island.
Mr. Downing was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Rock Island American Legion Post No. 200, and of Rock Island County Barracks of World War I Veterans.
Surviving are the widow; a son, Donald G. and a daughter, Mrs. Jimmie L. Buchman, both of Rock Island; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a brother, James R., Rock Island. He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
