Rev. Stanley Peters, 91 of Huntington went to his heavenly home at 6:29 am on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital.

Stanley was born on February 19, 1923 in Hagerstown, Maryland, a son of J. Clair and Grace (Rouzer) Peters. He graduated from Dillsburg, Pa. High school in 1940. Stanley earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Huntington College in 1944 and later earned his Bachelor of Divinity from Huntington College Seminary. In 1974 Huntington College honored him with a Doctor of Divinity Degree. Stanley taught Junior High and High School students at Clear Creek School in Huntington from 1944 to 1946.

He was united in marriage to Lola Lee Stites on June 6, 1945 in Hillsdale, Michigan. They just celebrated their 69th anniversary.

Stanley was a member of College Park Church in Huntington and also a member of the Evangelical Press association. Evangelical Press chose him to participate in a tour of the Holy Lands hosted by the Country of Isreal. He was also invited as a special guest to attend the International Congress on World Evangelism in Switzerland. His Quarterly Conference Ministerial license was given to him in 1945 and he was ordained in 1950. His first pastorate was the United Brethren Church in Fort Wayne, and he immediately found himself in a building program. Stanley also served several churches in Monroe, Indiana. His greatest joy was being assigned in 1954 to a plot of ground in Kettering, Ohio where he was told to build a parsonage, church, and congregation. Great satisfaction came from seeing his church prosper and grow. In 1959 he accepted the call of the United Brethren Headquarters in Huntington to return to Huntington and serve as Editor of the denominations publications. He served as Editor for 23 years before retiring in 1981. He and his wife served as Tour guides for the Huntington Council of Aging in Huntington. This was a happy time for both of them.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Lee Peters, two daughters; Renee Larkins of Dayton Ohio, and Jacalee (Mike) Skeens of Huntington, One son; Randy (Lona) Peters of Locksburg Arkansas, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Robert and Luke Peters.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2014 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel located at 2901 Guilford St. Huntington, IN 46750.

Funeral service will be held on Thursday June 12, 2014 at 10:00 am at the College Park United Brethren Church located at 1945 College Ave Huntington, IN 46750

Interment will take place at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made out to Camp Cotubic in care of Myers Funeral Home.
