Dana Obie Marshall Sr., 74, of 536 Chestnut Knob Road, Martinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Henry County to John Obie Marshall and Martha Hairston Marshall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Emily Preston Marshall; a son, Douglas Marshall; and a brother, Nelson Marshall.

He was an Army veteran and retired from Virginia Glass after eight years of service.

Surviving are a son, Dana O. Marshall Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; five sisters, Susan D. Dandridge and Amy Hairston, both of Martinsville, Sterling Leaks of Detroit, Mich., Elizabeth Lewis of Washington, D.C. and Mabel Williams of Greensboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mountain View Baptist Church. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the church for one-half hour before the service and other times at the home of his granddaughter, Diane Marshall, 131 Brittany Lane, Axton.
