R.L. Whitten Architect, Dies
An extended illness claimed the life today of a 93-year-old Charleston Architect.
Rufus Lee Whitten of 6B Abney circle died at his home.
Mr. Whitten attended Greenbrier Millitary School and in 1910 enrolled at the Capital City Commercial College. Later, he graduated from the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City.
He was a member of Kanawha Lodge No. 20, AF & AM Scottish Rite Bodies and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple and former member of the West Virginia Board of Architects.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including John Whitten of Charleston, Mrs. Herbert Eskins of Nitro, Miss Frances Whitten of Alabama and Mrs. Hallie Helminteller of Clifton Forge, Va.
The body is at Barlow - Bonsall Funeral Home.
