ST. GEORGE -- Velda Mary Holladay passed away September 5, 2004 at her home in St. George, Utah. She was born in Santaquin, Utah on October 16, 1917, the daughter of Carl Daniel and Olive LeBaron Greenhalgh. She learned many treasured values as she worked on the family farm in Genola and helped in her grandparent's mercantile store in Santaquin that have been passed on to her family. She graduated from Payson High School and attended Brigham Young University before she married Jesse Blaine Holladay on May 28, 1938 (later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple). They lived in Ontario, Oregon for more than forty years.

Velda was an avid homemaker - a wonderful mother among mothers. She loved gardening and reading good books, including audio tapes in recent years. She enjoyed being in many singing groups, was a faithful Relief Society and Primary leader and teacher in the LDS Church, served in the Louisville Kentucky Mission with her husband, and was a temple worker in both Boise, Idaho and St. George, Utah.

Velda and Blaine are the parents of six children -- Charlene (Jack) Putnam, Gerald (Susan) Holladay, Douglas (Paula) Holladay, Katherine (Charles) Freeman, Janette (Brent) Patch, and Gordon (Lisa) Holladay - 18 grandchildren and 25 greatgrandchildren. Velda is preceded in death by two grandsons, her parents, five sisters and one brother.

A family memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2004 at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel in St. George, Utah. Interment will follow at the Tonaquint Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the Macular Degeneration Society.
