Berle Dean Chalmers, 84, passed away September 12, 2013, surrounded by the love of his life, his family, at Hospice House of Reno County. He was born in Larned, Kansas July 8, 1929, the loving son of John and Mary Chalmers.


A graduate of Hutchinson High School, he served generations of families as Assistant Family Service Director of Fairlawn Burial Park. A gentle, loving man, he always had time and a soft word of advice and a warm and loving hug for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a true inspiration to them all. Berle also had a hobby of Antiques Picture Framing Restoration.


He married Patricia L. Wingert in Hutchinson, Kansas on December 5, 1954. She survives. Other survivors include 2 sons, Bruce and Brian (Kerry) both of Hutchinson; 6 grandchildren- Abby Joe Pontius, Brandall Chalmers, Carol Ann Chalmers, Colton Chalmers, Chase Chalmers & Travis Chalmers. 3 great-grandchildren- Sylas Chalmers, Cohen Chalmers & Isla Pontius. A daughter in law, Beth, and his chair side companion, Sissy, his dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and, 2 brothers.


Public visitation will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at Old Mission - Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:00 am at Fairlawn Burial Park with Pastor Matt Stafford presiding. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial gifts be made to Hospice House of Reno County or Cancer Council of Reno County and left in the care of the funeral home.
