Hall of Fame Professional Football Player. Born in Lucca, Italy, he was a two time All-American (1948-49) offensive lineman for the University of Minnesota, when he became a NFL first draft choice for the San Francisco 49ers in 1950. For fourteen seasons, he played for the San Francisco 49ers (1950-63), appeared in 174 straight regular-season games, including 10 Pro Bowl games, for a total of 266 pro contest appearances. During several off-seasons, he also starred as a professional wrestler and was enshrined to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1969. He died at age 76 in Stanford, California.
