He rode the freight trains looking for work in the orchards and fields of the Pacific Northwest and the Central Valley. He also worked in the logging camps in the Pacific Northwest.

Enlisted in U.S. Coast Guard in 1941. Fore-gunner on the USS LST-202, during four initial combat assault landings and seven support landings in the South Pacific during WWII.

A 60 year member of the Glaziers Union. He owned and operated Laugel Glass Company until he retired in 1980.

Married for 61 years to wife, Lorraine. Children are son, Erik, and daughter, Renee.
