Margaret Fairchild, age 82, of Mt. Vernon and formerly of Waltonville, died at 9:15 p.m. Friday Feb. 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Margaret was born Dec. 13, 1925 in Canton, the daughter of John Newman and Nellie (Grigsby) Beckham. She married Alden R. Fairchild on Sept. 14, 1943 in Jackson, Mo., and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2004.
Margaret was a homemaker and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Waltonville and was also a member of the Waltonville VFW Post 9153 and the Eagles in Mt. Vernon.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Betty Gilbert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Joyce and husband Robert Fuller of Woodlawn; three grandsons, Rob Fuller and wife Cindy of Troy, Mo., Mark Fuller and wife Renee of Highland, and Brian Gilbert and wife Joanie of Phoenix, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Cassie Marie and Kelly Ann Fuller; four brothers, Clyde Beckham and wife Dorothy, Art Beckham, Charles Beckham and wife Meda and Keith Beckham and wife Virginia; one sister, Ruth and husband David Buford; one step-brother, John Moore and wife Linda; one step-sister, Mildred and husband Jim Reynolds; and several special brother and sister-in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newman and Nellie (Grigsby) Beckham; step-mother, Nora (Moore); one son, Jerry Fairchild; two brothers, Burl Beckham and Kenneth Beckham; a sister, Shirley Harvey; and a step-brother, Charles Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville with Brother Jerry Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
