After 92 years of faithful service, Mrs. Bowman returned to her heavenly home on Friday afternoon, June 6, 2014, in Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville.
She was born April 7, 1922, in Overton County to the late William Sullivan and Ova Phillips England.
Mrs. Bowman was a retired cook at Uffelman Elementary School, where several generations enjoyed her peanut butter and syrup sandwiches and famous chocolate oatmeal cookies. She prepared many nutritious, healthy lunches with her co-workers, but those cookies and those sandwiches are most often recalled. Mrs. Bowman loved to garden and cook. She enjoyed many hours outdoors taking care of her vegetables and her flowers. She delighted in preparing and sharing meals with her family and friends. She could make a beautiful quilt from any piece of fabric. She enjoyed fishing, football and "The Family Feud." Mrs. Bowman had been a member of Monterey First Baptist Church since 1958.
