Doyle Hadley Baker, 79, of Playmore Beach Road, Lenoir, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care – Lenoir. He was born March 14, 1935, in Wilkes County to the late Zee and Callie Sparks Baker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hugh Baker and Herley Baker; and three sisters, Lorene Woodring, Eveline Pope and Durette Clark.

Mr. Baker owned and operated Gateway Apartments and Self-Storage. He was a member of West Lenoir Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Christine Elizabeth Setzer Baker of the home; four sons, Steven Doyle Baker and wife Rebecca, Anthony Wilson Baker and wife Andrea, Julian David Baker and wife Mary, and James Aaron Baker and wife Suzanne, all of Lenoir; stepdaughter, Donna Coffey of Morganton; stepson, Robert Hicks of Morganton; one sister, Madeline Smith of Lenoir; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at 2 p.m. at West Lenoir Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Rick Safriet, the Rev. James Baker and the Rev. James Lockee. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends and family from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Baker's Sunday school class.
