Gary Douglas McLeod
Born: August 06, 1949
Died: June 07, 2014

U.S. Veteran

Gary Douglas McLeod, 64 of Abilene, passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Friday evening in the chapel at Southern Hills Church of Christ with burial following in the late evening at Tecumseh Cemetery.

Gary Douglas McLeod was born August 6, 1949 in Tucumcari, NM to Clifford Baine McLeod and Arlene Virginia Adams McLeod. He was raised in Austin and was a member of the Reagan Raiders 1967 4A State Championship Football team. Gary attended Abilene Christian University on a football scholarship graduating with a bachelor's degree in Accounting. Gary worked as a CPA in management for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Company with high net worth clients in Santa Fe, NM. After many years there, Gary opened his own CPA practice.

Gary had a gift of communicating with clients that instilled trust and confidence. Through the years, he became more than just their CPA. He became an advisor and trusted friend. Gary was devoted to his family and to his church. He spent years teaching church youth, even helping missionaries in remote Northern New Mexico. He was ready and willing to serve his God in whatever capacity he was needed: Bus Driver, Teacher, Facilitator, Camp Coordinator, or using his accounting skills to help people experiencing hard circumstances.

Surviving Gary are his wife Darla Wise McLeod of Abilene; a son Trevor Douglas McLeod of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Victoria Katherine Anne Turner and husband Colton of Abilene; two grandchildren: Sidney Ryan Turner and Carson Douglas Turner. In addition, Gary is survived by his mother, Arlene McLeod; a brother, Mike McLeod and wife Becky of Elk City, OK; and a sister, Lynne Duncan and husband Glen of Sweeny, TX; as well as many extended family members, clients and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford McLeod and a sister, Cathy Oliver.

The family would like to extend a special thank you and appreciation to everyone who has given their love and support during the past 8 years and this difficult time. If you would like to financially help through donation a special benefit account honoring Gary has been opened in Darla McLeod's name at First Financial Bank, Abilene.
