Coming to Salt Lake City, Duncan took up the practice of law and was also engaged in mining development in several districts of the state. He succumbed to a complication of diseases, having been ill for nearly a year at the time of his death. (Ref: Salt Lake City Tribune, March 29, 1923, page 8)
