Maurice was preceded in death by two sisters, Elenore Wiseman and Miriam Cummings.
He retired with 33 years' service as an RC&D Coordinator for the Conservation District having served in Doddridge, Gilmer, Lewis, and Barbour Counties. He served in the US Army from 1942- 1946 during WWII.
Maurice volunteered at the Philippi Heart and Hand, Alleghany Mountain Wool Co-op, Hackers Creek Pioneers' Descendants, Stonewall Jackson Dam State Park Foundation, Corridor H Committee, Barbour County Industrial Authority, University Extension Office, Barbour County Fairgrounds/Park, and Tygart Valley Conservation Supervisors. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44, Bigelow Lodge # 52 AF & AM, and was very active in the Crim United Methodist Church.
Maurice was a 1941 graduate of Jane Lew High School and was a 1950 graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor's of Science of Agriculture.
Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home 216 N. Walnut St. Philippi on Monday June 9, from 5-8 pm and on Tuesday June 10 Maurice will be moved to the Crim United Methodist Church to lie in state from 10:30am – 12 pm the service hour with Rev. Tim Bleigh officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 pm at the Fairview Cemetery located on Hackers Creek Road, Jane Lew, WV. with military honours being accorded. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Crim United Methodist Church, 200 Pike St. Philippi or Hackers Creek Pioneers' Descendants Library 45 Abbotts Run Rd. Horner, WV 26372.
