He was born April 26, 1944, in Austin, Minn., to Robert and Gladys (Hanson) Roy. Roger graduated from Adams High School in 1962. After high school, he attended Lee's Barber School in Minneapolis, Minn., and owned his own barbershop for several years. On Aug. 10, 1968, he married Nancy Paula Heimer; they were later divorced. Roger worked for the Burlington Railroad in Minneapolis and was then transferred to Aberdeen, S.D. After working for the Burlington Railroad for 26 years, he retired due to a second back injury. Roger had a passion for cars; he has been able to identify every year, make and model of car since before the age of 10. He loved polishing his car and caring for his lawn. Roger also enjoyed fishing, boating, playing pool, and watching football, basketball, baseball and golf on TV.
He is survived by his sons: Bradley Roy, of Austin, Minn.; Scott Roy, of Aberdeen, S.D.; mother, Gladys Roy, of Adams, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Roger Stoufer, of Mankato, Minn.; one niece, two nephews, three aunts, one uncle and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; and infant daughter, Renee.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Little Cedar Lutheran Church with The Reverend Shari A. Mason officiating. Interment will be in the Little Cedar Lutheran Cemetery in Adams. Visitation will be held at Little Cedar Lutheran Church on Thursday for one hour before the service.
Memorials are preferred to the American Heart Fund, Little Cedar Lutheran Church or to the Donor's Choice.
