Thomas W. Neal “PaPaw”, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at Rapides Regional Medical Center, Alexandria, LA. He joins his beloved wife, Elda Marie, and we are sure they are dancing together again!

He lived in Ball for fifty-eight years and was born in Castor, where he learned many life lessons, of which, made for some funny story-telling. He was a thirty-three year career Air Force man achieving the highest non-commissioned officer rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He joined the Air Force in 1951 in Lake Charles and retired at England Air Force base in Alexandria in 1984. He initially worked in food preparation for eight years, then transferred to aircraft engine maintenance for the duration of his career. His final position was Chief Master Sergeant in the Flying Tiger 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing. He served in multiple countries during his career including, Africa, Germany, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, England and Scotland, where he participated in bombing competition exercises. The stories he shared ran the gamut from funny to dangerous, happy to hair raising and even life threatening. He has pretty much been there, done that, as far as life adventures go and its been such a blessing to hear those stories told by a great story-teller. He had a wonderful extended family at Hixon Auto-plex for over twenty-five years. He enjoyed getting to the dealership early to open up and make the morning coffee to help everyone jump start their day. He was a lifetime member at Palestine Methodist Church and had his favorite pew spot and was pretty much the “pew-greeter” on Sundays. He loved his Lord, his family and life and imparted that to us. We will be forever grateful and blessed by his life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, S.T. Neal and Audrey Neal; his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Elda Marie Neal and one brother, Jimmie Ray Neal.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include one son, Michael Ray Neal and his wife, Dodie, of Pineville; two daughters, Tomina Stutes, of Austin, TX. and Julia Deville and her husband, Rex, of Ball; five sisters, Dorothy Cook, of Shreveport, Audrey Riser and her husband, Gerry, of Little Rock, AR., Sara Bappe and her husband, Phil, of Zwolle, Linda Neal, of Dallas, TX. and Jackie Jacobs and her husband, Jon, of Houston, TX.

A time of visitation will be held at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
