Mr. Middleton was born on January 10, 1921 in Killeen, Texas to Albert Tip Middleton and Ida Louis (Brown) Middleton. He grew up in Lampasas, Texas before moving to Abilene in 1947. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On July 5, 1946 J.L. married Eva Marie Taylor in Burnett, Texas. He was an assistant superintendent for K.A. Sparks. He also worked for Lee Cullens Cement Company. He was a member of the American Legion, past president of Abilene Cement Masons and a member of Potosi Methodist Church.
J.L. was preceded in death by both of his parents, one brother, Milton Jones and one sister, Helen Badaliti. He is survived by his wife, Eva Marie Middleton of Potosi; one son, Joe Lee Middleton, Jr. and his wife Donna of Potosi; one daughter, Patricia Ann Hackett and her husband Kenneth of Waco; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
