Marjorie Elizabeth Schanfeldt, 94, of Parkview Care Center, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on Friday, June 6, 2014. She was the daughter of Ivan Keith and Stella Hammond Zellers, born March 6, 1920, in Davis County, Iowa.

Mrs. Schanfeldt graduated from Ottumwa High School, in Ottumwa, IA. She worked for John Morrell and Company, prior to marrying her first husband, Raymond A. Christy, and starting a family. She was a secretary at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa for six years, and retired after five years as a Homemaker Health Aid.

Mrs. Schanfeldt was a member of Suburban Heights Baptist Church.

Over the years, Mrs. Schanfeldt enjoyed her Iris gardens, embroidering, baking, and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Christy Peterson(David)of Vero Beach, FL, and Tammi Christy Crafton of Ottumwa; a stepson, Mark Schanfeldt(Judy)of Freeport, IL; two sisters, Donna Jean Wolf of Mooresville, NC, and Marcia Heninger(Larry)of Hedrick, IA; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Schanfeldt was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Walter Schanfeldt, Jr. in 2013, an infant brother, and her first husband.

Funeral services will be at 11 am Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Behner Funeral Home, with words of comfort by Brother Scott Petty. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10-11 am Wednesday, prior to the service at Behner Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Schanfeldt's name to either: Suburban Heights Baptist Church, or the Jefferson County Auxiliary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.
