Derrell Edward Long, age 75, of Carrollton, MO passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Liberty Hospital.

Derrell was born April 3, 1939 to Rolla and Blanche (Miller) Long in Mandeville, MO. On August 30, 1963, Derrell married the love of his life, Veleta Staton at the Methodist Church in Waverly, MO. To this union, they were blessed with one son, Daren.

Derrell graduated from Carrollton High School in 1958. Following high school, Derrell worked at Mattingly's, JC Penney and Banquet Foods. He also managed Norborne Laundromat for eighteen years. Derrell did a lot of community service throughout his lifetime. His biggest love was volunteering for Cystic Fibrosis. In 1981, Derrell received the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Distinguished Service Award for his appreciation of untiring and devoted service to the cause of helping children with cystic fibrosis. Derrell also received an award for his volunteer work with Carroll County Mental Health Association and the Advisory Board for Mid-Missouri Mental Health Center. He belonged to the Norborne Cub Scouts # 293 and was a Cub Master for # 392 at Norborne, MO. Since the age of 13, Derrell has been a member of the Methodist Church.

Derrell is survived by his wife of the home, Veleta; one son, Daren of Carrollton, MO; two sisters-in-law, Donna Roberts of Richmond, MO and Darlene Staton of Richmond, MO; two nieces, Maria Engler and husband, Mark, Denise Smith and husband, Jesse; one nephew, Keith Roberts; two great-nephews; one great-great niece; one great-great-nephew and several cousins.

Derrell was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth E. Long.

A Cremation Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Bittiker Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Engler officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

The family suggests contributions to be made to the Derrell E. Long Memorial Fund. They may be left at or mailed to Bittiker Funeral Home P.O. Box 223 Carrollton, MO 64633.
