John E. Page

Funeral services for John E. Page,
lifelong resident of Charleston, who
died Sunday at his home, 2138 Penn-
sylvania Avenue, were held this after-
noon at 2:30 at the residence.
Burial was made in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Sevy, Will Hoy,
Frank Wison, Louis Westfall, Nat Bams,
and Greenbury Dawson.

Mr. Page was born four miles up the
Elk River, near the present site of the
town of Barlow, February 23, 1847.
His father was the late Cornelius
Page, one of the pioneers of the
Kanawha Valley, coming here as a
surveyor from Virginia. He lived until
a few months ago. When he died at
the age of 100.
John E. Page took an active part in
the growth of Charleston, being
much interested in civic affairs.

He is survived by his widow, two
daughters, Mrs. Bradford Nelson
and Mrs. H. E. Conners of this city;
a son, Sargent Major John W. Page
of Fort Adams, R.I.; a sister, Mrs.
Harriett C. Meadows of Bigley Avenue,
also surviving.

Mr. Page was a member of G. A. R.
