After being the first of his family to graduate from high school in Levering/Pellston High School (Class of 1944), he immediately enlisted in the US Army and served the remainder of WWII with the 101st Airborne Division following the Battle of the Bulge and preparing to be with the front line forces for invasion of main land Japan.
He found work after the war in Lansing at Duo Therm, a division of Motor Wheel. In Lansing he met and married Arbelle Gardner on July 23, 1949, to begin their life of 57 years together.
His employment continued with other divisions in Motor Wheel for over the next 40 years until his retirement in 1986. In addition to providing for his family, he enjoyed daily hikes about the Holt community, hunting, fishing and spectator sports.
