Jack Ekard Matthews, 81, of Granite Falls, was a son of the late Herbert V. Matthews and Sadie V. Eckard Matthews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Smith Matthews; brother, Chalmer Matthews; sister, Kay Pope.
He was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Granite Falls, a U.S. Army veteran and was a brick mason who worked for Heavner's Masonry until his retirement. Jack was a former member of Brick Missions, a group that built and bricked churches in North Carolina and West Virginia and also enjoyed fishing and spending time in the garden.
Interment in Mountain Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Granite Falls.
