Glenn R. Ahlefeld, 90, of Bucyrus died Friday, June 6, 2014 at Maplecrest Assisted Living where he had resided for two years.

He was born May 24, 1924 in Bucyrus to the late Zearl A. and Carrie (Godwin) Ahlefeld. Glenn graduated from Bucyrus High School in 1942. He was working at Swan Rubber when he answered the call to serve in the US Army during WW2 in April of 1943. He enjoyed attending reunions of his unit when he was able. He went on to work for, and retire from, The Timken Co. Glenn married Isabella Strayer on July 1, 1950 and shared a birthday, anniversary and nearly 58 years of marriage until Izzy preceded him in death April 9, 2008.

Glenn will be remembered as an honest, fair-minded man with a strong will and conservative outlook. He was a lifelong member on Woodlawn United Methodist Church where he previously served as a trustee.

Glenn is survived by two sons, James (Terri) Ahlefeld of Crestline and Thomas (Vickie) Ahlefeld of Bucyrus; three grandchildren, Brian Ahlefeld, Stacy (Chris) Miller and Austin Griffith; four great grandchildren, Bryn, Claire, Sydney and Adren Miller; and nieces, Gwen (Paul) Brown and Gail (Tom) Pastirzyk.

In addition to his parents and wife, Glenn was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Ahlefeld and Robert's wife, Sue Ahlefeld.

Funeral services will be held at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus on Tuesday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. James Ellis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Burial will follow in Brokensword Cemetery where military rites will be provided by the US Army and American Legion Post 181 Honor Guards.

Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to give to Maplecrest or Woodlawn UMC through the funeral home.
