Leonard G. Esser, 79, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at his home.

Mr. Esser retired from Northwestern National Insurance and Esser-Reser Insurance. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in Topeka, to Henry John and Annetta Margaret Fuser Esser.

He graduated from Hayden High School in 1941 and Strickler's Business College in Topeka. Mr. Esser was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Third Order of St. Francis and the Jaycees.

He married Mathilda "Tillie" Desch on June 2, 1948, in Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include five daughters, Annetta E. Vahsholtz, Herington, Barbara Reser, Topeka, Mary E. Demars, Keller, Texas, Jane E. Jordan, Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Leann E. Muschenheim, The Woodlands, Texas; a son, L. Jacob Esser, Olathe; a brother, William A. Esser, Topeka; a sister, Mary Margaret Morrison, Houston; and 16 grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Relatives and friends will meet from 4 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
