This was recorded by Mattie Mae Lary Poe: "Sketches of History Concerning Thomas Jefferson McKee Prepared and Published by Jesse McKee dated 7-27-1958 & Presented to guests at 1958 reunion, Belton,Texas "Beginning at this point I copy in part - Thomas Jefferson McKee was a soldier in the Confederate Army. He was 47. Some of his older sons fought with him. His Company was the 46th Regiment of Inf of 6th Batallion. He was a private in Company 1. His company came from Newton Co. Miss & was in Battle of Chickasaw Bayou, Fort Gibson, & Vicksburg. He was captured at Vicksburg & held by Union Army. "He signed an oath swearing his allegience to the American Flag when he was released from Prisoner of War Camp. Jesse owned this copy. "
