Thad was one of the 13 children of Henry Lee Crawley and Sarah Josephine Brandon Crawley.

Thad was a World War II veteran, served as a Navy Chief Petty Officer Radioman. After WWII he attended the University of Georgia Law School and received his Juris Doctorate in 1950. He was a member of the Georgia Bar Association and American Bar Association, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.

December 17, 1951, Married Mary Louise Neisler, Reynolds, GA.
He lived in Reynolds and was an Attorney at Law in Taylor County from 1951 until the time of his death in 1981.
He was a charter member of the Reynolds Kiwanis Club.

Thad and Mary Louise had five children, Charles Green (1952- ), Michael Bruce (1954-2007), Will Neisler (1954-2014), Mary Louise (1956- ), and a son to be named David Brandon that died at birth (1961). Thad, Mary Louise, their infant son and, Mike and Will are buried in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Reynolds, Georgia.
