FORNEY ALICE L.
Of Ross Township, a retired home health nurse, passed away Friday July 17, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Hospice House, in Wexford, after a long bout with liver cancer. She was born, December 21, 1942 in Adrian Hospital, Punxsutawney, PA, a daughter of Ruby Caldwell and the late John P. Caldwell. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Sue Eileen. Alice was an active member of Memorial Park Church, Allison Park, PA and a beloved member of the Women to Women program. She was active in the study of genealogy and was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Genealogical Society, where she was a charter member of the First Families of Western Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Indiana County Historical Society and North Hills Genealogy Society. Alice graduated from the West Penn Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 where she earned her RN degree. She continued her education at Carlow University where she received a bachelor's degree in nursing in 1968. After this, she spent a period of time teaching clinical nursing at West Penn Hospital. She worked for the Visiting Nurses Association, where she served patients in the city for 27 years, until her retirement in 1999. Alice is survived by her husband, Robert; mother Ruby, a sister, Judy (George) Rathmell, of Punxsutawney, a brother, Dale (Joanne) Caldwell of Mountville, PA. She also leaves three step children, Scott (Berlie) Forney of Orange Park, FL, Jeffery Forney of Sugarland, TX, and Angela (Rocco) DiBenardo of Lake Mary, FL. Her extended family includes four grandchildren and one great granddaughter, along with uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, and many loving cousins, all of whom will miss her very much. Funeral arrangements are handled by the SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, 7720 Perry Highway, Pittsburgh, PA. There will be no viewing. A service of the Celebration of Alice's Life will be held at Memorial Park Church, Duncan and Peebles Ave. Allison Park, PA at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 26, 2009. All of her friends and loved ones are welcome. Burial will be private, with internment in the Allegheny County Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at Memorial Park Church, 8800 Peebles Rd. Allison Park, PA 15101.
