Mrs. Sallie Ava Barney Jones, 85, of Cornatzer Road, joined the more immediate presence of our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, due to injuries sustained in a car accident on June 3rd. She was born on June 7, 1928, in Davie County, to the late George Anderson and Mattie Maude Hendrix Barney and was a lifelong member of Cornatzer Baptist Church. Mrs. Jones had been employed with P.H. Hanes Knitting Company in Winston-Salem for approximately 20 years. She was pianist at Cornatzer Baptist Church for approximately 30 years and also directed the Christmas program for the same time period. She also directed "The Candle March" in which the Christmas theme song was "Follow the Gleam." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Calvin Barney; a sister, Lucy Barney; a nephew, Michael Barney; and brothers-in-law, Brady Barney, Norman Smith and T.A. "Bill" Shoaf. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at Cornatzer Baptist Church, with Rev. Richard Whiteheart, Rev. David Maynard and Rev. Ed Kuhar officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
