Man killed by flying tire
A Graceville area man was killed Tuesday when a spare tire fell off its rack under a semi-trailer truck and struck him as he stood in his driveway near U.S. 75, the State Patrol reported.
Leo Schwagerl, 66, had walked down to the end of the driveway to pick up his mail and was talking to a friend who had parked his pickup in the driveway when the freak accident happened.
The truck was northbound on U.S. 75 when the 100 pound tire fell out of its rack, striking both the pickup and Schwagerl.
Schwagerl was killed instantly, the patrol said.
