Marilyn Joyce Gard McCall was born on Nov. 8, 1932, during a snowstorm to parents Francis and Jean (Spurling) Gard. She grew up on a farm in Early and went on to graduate from Sacred Heart High School and Briar Cliff College.
Marilyn married Stephen Patrick McCall on June 29, 1957, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early.
Marilyn taught kindergarten and third grade at St. Cecelia School and was an English teacher at Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona. She was always volunteering her time, with Meals on Wheels, Kossuth County CARE Team, St. Cecelia Adoration chapel, teaching CCD and providing music at Good Samaritan Nursing Home and the county home.
Marilyn's greatest love was being a wife, mother and grandmother, raising five children and being Grammy to her 13 grandchildren. She could always be found at one of her family's numerous activities. She loved music and was an exceptional pianist, singer and liked to dance. Many family events involved singing around the piano while Marilyn tickled the ivories. She loved to travel and made numerous trips to Ireland with her family. She enjoyed nature and watching the birds at her home on Potter Hill amongst all her beautiful oak trees.
Marilyn was a very caring and giving person who could talk to anyone and make them feel like an old friend. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, attending mass, being Eucharist minister and spending many hours in prayer at the Adoration Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen on Oct. 3, 2012, her parents and her brother Richard.
