August 12, 1939 - June 2 - 2014
Frances was born in Forest City, Arkansas on August 12, 1939 to her parents Hazel and Clarence Goodwin. She passed away, with her husband by her side, on Monday, June 2, 2014 at the age of 74. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
At the age of five, Frances left Arkansas with her family and later settled in Planada, where she attended local schools, including Le Grand High School. In 1956, she met the love of her life, Montie Douglas at the Merced County Fair. On January 21, 1957, Judge Flossie Lobo married her and Montie at the Merced County Courthouse. Together they raised five sons and when their youngest entered kindergarten Fran entered the workforce. Being employed by a local convalescent hospital owned by the Gamboa family, she worked full-time overseeing the Housekeeping staff of three facilities and retired as Health Care Supervisor after 37 years.
Fran took great pride in decorating her house making it a home for all who lived there. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her household plants. She also loved to read, crochet, watch romance movies and follow the San Francisco Giants. Fran was known for her great cooking, especially her potato salad and cornbread dressing at the holidays. Her sweet tea was a family favorite and you knew when you walked in the door you'd always be greeted with love, conversation and delicious food to eat. Nothing brought her greater joy, however, than being in the company of her husband, her children and grandchildren - and most recently her great-grandchildren. Their "Nana" will be greatly missed because they weren't done loving her!
Francis is survived by her husband, Montie Douglas, four sons, Rodney (Ronda), Steve (Julie), Greg (Denise), and Donald Douglas; her brother Roy Goodwin and sisters Betty Dillard, Shirley Potter, Peggy Cabral, Sheila Fields, and Margaret Williams, 25 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Clarence Goodwin, siblings Gene Goodwin, Mary Riley, Phyllis Runion, and her son Rocky Douglas.
A Graveside Service celebrating Fran's life will be held at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella on Monday, June 9, 2014 at 9:30 AM.
