EVANS John Burton, 86 of East Rutherford since 1981 formerly of Cape May Court House until 1949 then moved to Hasbrouck Heights passed away June 4, 2011. John was born in Swainton, NJ in 1925.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard DD724 US Laffey, the "Ship That Would Not Die." For over 35 years he was employed by DeBragga and Spitler custom wholesale meat purveyors in New York City as a butcher and retired in 1985. John was active with Boy Scouts in Bergen County and Hasbrouck Heights where he was a scout leader for Troop 68 from 1956 until 1969 and he was a former member of the American Legion in Cape May Court House.
Beloved husband of the late Theodora L. (nee Zwaan) Evans whom he married in 1947. Loving father of Richard Evans of East Rutherford and Robyn Zicker of River Edge. Cherished grandfather of Tracy Evans Carpenter and Holly Zicker.
Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to N.J. Veterans Memorial Home at Paramus, 1 Veteran Drive, P.O. Box 608, Paramus, NJ 07653-0608. Arrangements Kimak Funeral Home, Carlstadt.
