George P. and Elsie K. Steel - Toms River
George and Elsie Steel, passed away within hours of each other. They would have been married 40 years this June.
George was born Feb. 17, 1922 in Kearny. Elsie was born Aug. 30, 1927 in Newark. The couple lived in Union before moving to Claymont, Del. After retiring, the couple moved to Holiday City in Toms River.
George worked for Wheaton Brass and retired from Dupont. He served as a master drill sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. Elsie worked for New Jersey Bell and Wheaton Brass, where she met her husband.
George is predeceased by his parents, Malcolm and Ann Steel; his brothers, Malcolm and John; and his first wife, Ruth Post Steel. Elsie is predeceased by her parents, Wilhelm and Frieda Koch. The couple is survived by their son, Dr. Gary Anderson, his wife, Judy of Denville, and their daughters, Pamela Jennings of Little Silver, and Cynthia Steel, her partner, Bonnie Glassman of Tinton Falls. They are also survived by their grandsons, Eric Anderson, Joseph Jennings, and David Jennings.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be sent to Compassionate Care Hospice, 833 Route 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755. Arrangements are under the direction of Ocean County Cremation Service, 206 Lacey Road, Forked River.
