POYNETTE - Iva J. Thompson, 94, of Poynette, passed away Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Columbia Healthcare Center in Wyocena.
Iva was born Feb. 7, 1916, in the township of Arlington, the miracle daughter of Henry and Susie Hanson Breneman, weighing in at only 1 pound. She married Leonard W. Thompson on Dec. 10, 1934, and they were blessed with five beautiful children: Sharon, Luann, Rosalie, Leonard Jr. and Margo, whom they dearly loved. She and Leonard celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Dec. 10, 2000, with joy and excitement. On Feb. 16, 2001, Leonard went to join their five angels in heaven. Iva was a member of Poynette United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for 25 years and was a member of the Women's Group. She was also on the Sunshine Committee for more than 65 years. Iva was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She worked as a volunteer for years at the Poynette Pharmacy. She also enjoyed visiting the local nursing homes and her handicapped friends.
Iva is survived by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, on Feb. 16, 2001; her children, Sharon, Luann, Rosalie, Leonard Jr. and Margo; her parents; six sisters; three brothers; and her twin brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette, with Pastor Sharon Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Poynette.
