A Fort Myers man died Monday night after he collided with a semitrailer while driving the wrong way on a road in Bradford County, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.
Joshua D. Odom, 24, died around 11:25 p.m. on U.S. 301 north of Northeast 185th Street, according to Highway Patrol report.
Odom was driving a 2003 Nissan Altima north in the southbound left lane on U.S. 301. Jerry R. Foust, 60, of Knox, Indiana, was driving a 2010 Freightliner Cascadia south in the left lane when he saw Odom driving in the wrong direction, the report said.
Foust told troopers he tried to swerve to the right lane to avoid colliding with Odom's car. The left side of the car hit the left rear axle of the semi's trailer, the report said. Foust was able to pull over safely in a left turn lane after impact. Odom's car came to rest in the left lane facing northwest.
Foust reported no injuries. The Highway Patrol Report did not say whether Odom was wearing a seat belt.
