IONIA- Pearl M. Stowell, 90, of Ionia and Mesa, Arizona died Sunday, Nov. 12,
1995 at Carson City Hospital.

She was born Jan. 31, 1905 in Mattawan, Mich., the daughter of Henry and
Margaret (McLaughlin) Hammond.

She worked for 15 years at the State Hospital in Ionia, retiring in 1970. She
was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Ionia. She was married to Melvin
S. Stowell in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1928.

She is survived by her son John (Pat) Stowell, of Ionia; daughter Caroline
(Jim) Hopkins, of Mesa, Arizona; sister-in-law Louise Back, of Ionia; 12
grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin on Jan. 1, 1959, great-grandson
Neil Smejkal in 1991 and brother Merrell Hammond in 1955.

Requiem mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 1995 at the St.
Johns Episcopal Church in Ionia with Fr. Scott Anderson officiating. Interment
will be in Easton Cemetery, and visitation will be on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 4
p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Myers Memorial Chapel in Ionia.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Episcopal Fund or the Leukemia
Foundation.
