Andrew W WIlls was the fourth child of WIlliam and Elizabeth (nee Marple) Wills, married Eleanora Willauer of Nashville, TN. In 1890, they had three chjildren living with them in Nashville, Van Lear, Wayne and Eleanora, wwhen he sent family information to Dr. Hiram Corson of Plymouth Meeting, PA.
He was one of the first from Montgomery County, PA to answer the call for volunteers by President Lincoln.He enlisted as a private in the 15th Pennsylvania Cavalry. By December, 1863, he was commissioned Captain Wills and Asst. Quartermaster. He served as Depot Quartermaster in Nashville. When the war ended, at the ionsistance of Gen. George H Thomas, he took charge of the location and purchase of National Cemeteries in the Southwest and constructed those in Corinth, MS and Pittsburg Landing, TN. He served on the staff of Generals Thomas and John Miller and became a Senator from California. He was brevetted a Major and Lt. Colonel for his service at Antietam and Nashville and has a certificate on non-indebtedness from the government for the time he handled millions of dollars from 1862 through 1868. He has lived in Nashville since the end of the war.
