Verus C. Conklin of Athens, PA passed away Sunday, September 5, 2010 at ElderWood at Tioga. He was born on October 15, 1927 in Hallstead, PA the son of the late Walter and Frances Boardman Conklin. Doc loved hunting and fishing. He worked at Solocks Sports Shop for 39 years, and was well known for his story telling. Doc served in the United States Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific. He was a lifetime member of Skiff Bower Post 1536 V.F.W. and the Sayre Sportsmans Club. He is predeceased by his brother Walter Conklin, Jr. Doc is survived by his wife of 63 years Elizabeth at home, daughter Janet Seeley of Athens, PA, grandchildren Melinda Seeley of Bloomsburg, PA, and Brandon Seeley of Litchfield, PA, sister Mercedes Strope of Windham Center, PA, Mary Jones of CA, and Lena Pendleton of Warren Center, PA, two aunts, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 1pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc, 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 2pm with the Rev. James Donahoo from Sayre Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
