JOHN A HANAWALT of Melbourne Beach, FL died at home - he was the son of Dr John E and Gertrude Hanawalt. He married Jessie Cadwell in 1950, and raised 5 children in Commack, NY. In 1973, he married Marjorie Flinn, mother of six, and they lived in Huntington, NY where he was an educator for 32 years at Village School in Syosset, NY. John was a WWII and Korean War veteran, received degrees from Hofstra, New Paltz & the University of Northern Colorado. Preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Cadwell Hanawalt (married in 1950), surviving are his wife of 41 years, Marjorie Flinn Hanawalt; children, Pamela (Edward) O'Brien of Coram, NY; F.X. (Linda) Flinn of Quechee, VT; Diane A (Charles) Jacobs of Ypsilanti, MI; Elizabeth M (Emil) Groth of Crozet, VA; Joseph A (Amy) Flinn of Rochester, NY; Heidi M (Robert) Winkler of Wilmington, NC; Carol Flinn (Bernie) Dunne of Roanoke, VA; Moira K (Daniel) Soulia of Reno, NV; Anne Flinn Powell of Charlottesville, VA; Robert S (Kirsten) Hanawalt of East Northport, NY and Midge Flinn Yost of Harpers Ferry, WV; 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held June 7, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Melbourne Beach. Arrangements entrusted to Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care in Melbourne.
