Charlie Mae Hamilton, 87, of Kansas City, Missouri, was born May 16, 1927 to the late Joe and Sylvia Roberson in Deberry, Texas. She was the seventh child of twelve children and was preceded in death by six siblings: Ella D. Allison, M.T. Roberson, Lizzie Davis, Lula Smith, C.B. Roberson and Bertha Roberson. Charlie Mae was united in holy matrimony to the late Clyde L. Brown Sr. and they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri to begin their new life together. After his demise in 1975, Charlie Mae gained her strength from the Lord and pressed forward to continue raising their five children. She later remarried the late Reverend H.L. Hamilton in July 1987 until he was called home to be with the Lord in January 1995. Charlie Mae was an employee of the Kansas City Missouri Public School District for many years and retired in 1992. Charlie Mae accepted Christ into her life and has never looked back since. She began her Christian journey as a member of Hands of Christ Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Toy Bedford. Once Charlie remarried, she followed her husband's lead and became a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor McClain, Pastor Manuel L. Dillingham and current leadership Pastor James A. Terrance. Years after the passing of her husband the late Reverend H.L. Hamilton, she decided to support her son, Pastor Charles E. Brown at Hands of Christ Church where she remained a member until the Lord called her home. Charlie Mae served regularly throughout her years at both congregations as a member of the Women's Ministry, Mass Choir, a Sunday School Teacher and as leader of the Mother Board. She was a leader and believer of God's word, often attending various Missionary trips to spread the love and word of God. Charlie Mae had a supreme sense of style and always looked amazing at any event she attended. She not only had a love for clothes and jewelry, she also loved cooking. Family and friends often requested her wonderful greens with cornbread or her tantalizing peach cobbler. Our beloved Charlie Mae was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 12:38am. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will always be remembered for her sense of humor, concern for others, kind heart, gentle spirit and a smile that could light up a room. She left footprints on the heart of every person that she met. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Clyde L. Brown (Gladys) and Charles E. Brown (Jackie); three daughters, Mary A. Brown, Patricia A. Pryor, Karen E. Busby (Milton) all of Kansas City, MO; four sisters, Addie B. Cameron of Deberry, TX, Tenola Small, Bernice Herbert both of Kansas City, MO and Joetta Mitchell Deberry, TX; one brother, Johnnie Roberson of Pacoima, CA; ten grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, other loving relatives and very special friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Services conducted by Duane E. Harvey Funeral Directors.
